Turbocharger Type Plates

HOW TO IDENTIFY YOUR TURBOCHARGER

To identify your turbocharger, you need to know the original part number from the turbocharger manufacturer.

As a rule, you will find the numbers on a type plate/badge or engraved directly on the turbocharger's fresh air, intake or compressor housing.

Part number (P/N):
This is the original turbocharger number, provided directly by the turbocharger manufacturer (Garrett, BorgWarner, IHI, Mitsubishi etc.).

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), or O.E. for short:
This is the vehicle manufacturer's number (Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Ford, Toyota, Volvo, VW etc.).

STEP ONE:
Clean the badge or the housing. The numbers can sometimes be very difficult to make out, so the area must be thoroughly washed or cleaned.

STEP TWO:
Determine the original turbocharger number.
Each make of turbocharger has its own number.

Both numbers are usually present on the turbocharger, but the part number takes priority.

Our tip:

On our homepage you can start your search in the "search bar" using the part number or OEM number.

If you search via the vehicle finder and land on the item page, you should definitely compare the numbers as well!

For your information:

As selecting by VIN does not always lead to the right part 100% of the time, the safest option is always to buy a new turbocharger using the part number read from the plate.
